Turkmenistan will host UN Second Global Sustainable Transport Conference
Today at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, President Berdymuhamedov instructed the government to consider proposals for holding the UN Second Global Sustainable Transport Conference in Ashgabat or the National Tourist Zone Avaza. As was reported at the meeting, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution “Development of Multimodal Transport for Achievement of the Goals of Sustainable Development” initiated on the initiative of our country. As the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov noted in his report, the policy of the Turkmen Leader on the development of transport infrastructure is of global strategic importance. In this regard, our country is the most appropriate venue for international events designed to deepen international cooperation in the transport sector. Global transport communication in the modern world is becoming increasingly important in connection with the processes of globalization, which create the interdependence of states in the economic, political and social plans. Modernization of transport infrastructure leads to a more dynamic development of the world market due to the acceleration of trade turnover, decreasing in costs for moving cargoes and improving the safety of their transportation. The UN resolution adopted recently on strengthening ties between all modes of transport concentrates the attention of the world community on the need for joint planning of transport corridors and infrastructure, as well as the adoption of international standards and rules for their development. Due to the coordination of common efforts it will be possible to create a global transport network that will ensure the achievement of the goals of sustainable development and will help to sustain a stable growth of the world economy.
