In September, IRU and Turkmenistan held high-level talks focused on priorities in the field of road transport, during which key aspects of the sector's development were examined. The meetings, which took place in Ashgabat between the Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Umberto de Pretto and the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, as well as the Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers, Mammethan Chakiyev, highlighted Turkmenistan's significant investments in road transport infrastructure.

Umberto de Pretto emphasized the importance of developing both “hard” and “soft” infrastructure. Particular attention was paid to Turkmenistan's efforts in promoting harmonized mechanisms and procedures necessary for efficient trade. Examples of successful combinations of these infrastructures include ensuring safe TIR operations through the use of advanced cargo information and dedicated priority lanes at key border crossings, facilitating security-based transit.

IRU and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, as well as the Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency, also agreed to develop a roadmap to promote road transport in Turkmenistan and increase its attractiveness for trade and transit, as reported on the website of the International Road Transport Union.
