Afghanistan prepares to launch important projects with Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan's Ambassador to Kabul, Hoja Ovezov met with Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Afghanistan Najibullah Hayat Haqqani on 8 September to discuss issues related to the implementation of a joint project to lay a fibre-optic communication line, as reported by Radio Television of Afghanistan.

The Minister noted that communication technologies are an urgent need in the current era and added that the most important part of data transmission is expanding the fiber optic network and that both countries are currently striving to ensure their internet environment in terms of security.

The Ambassador also spoke in favor of continuing joint work in the fields of fiber-optic communications and cyber security.

The day before, the first meeting of a commission established by the Afghan leadership for joint projects with Turkmenistan - the TAPI gas pipeline, the TAP power transmission lines and fiber-optic communications, and the railway - was held in Kabul, the Afghan Foreign Ministry press service reported.

The meeting was chaired by Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and attended by representatives of security services, ministries of mines and petroleum, public works, information and culture, communications and information technology, and the Afghan Electricity Company. The meeting was devoted to a comprehensive discussion of the upcoming launching ceremony of the TAPI project in Afghanistan and a number of other key projects in cooperation with Turkmenistan.

The chairperson of the commission and officials from departmental sectors presented comprehensive reports detailing the progress of the sub-committee preparations and decisions were taken to ensure the successful conduct of the ceremony.

It is expected that these initiatives will be officially launched in the near future through a series of important events, according to a press release from the Afghan Foreign Ministry.
