Cargo turnover on the eastern branch of the North-South corridor to reach 2 million tonnes in 2024
The potential of the eastern branch of the international transport corridor “North-South” passing through Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran is up to 15 million tonnes annually. This was stated by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation, Kazem Jalali, at the Caspian Forum in Astrakhan, according to TASS.
“The potential of this eastern branch of the North-South corridor is up to 15 million tonnes every year. The corridor passes through the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and then through the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the ambassador said.
As Jalali noted, in 2023, the countries began transporting cargoes along this route, the volume of transportation amounted to 650,000 tonnes. It is planned that in 2024, cargo turnover in this direction will increase to 2 million tonnes.
The IX Caspian Media Forum is taking place in Astrakhan on 16-17 August, bringing together journalists, representatives of authorities and public organizations from Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, as well as Gagauzia and Uzbekistan.
