Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammetkhan Chakiyev and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin held a bilateral meeting to discuss the prospects for cooperation in the transport sector.

Both countries are actively cooperating in the development of the eastern direction of the North-South corridor, which passes through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, ensuring the transit of goods to Pakistan and further to India.

A roadmap was signed in July 2024 between Kazakhstan, Russia, Iran and Turkmenistan on the synchronous development of the North-South corridor, a decision was agreed on the use of the western branch of the Trans-Afghan Railway. Kazakhstan expressed its readiness to participate together with Turkmenistan and Afghanistan in the construction of sections of the Afghan railway Turgundi-Herat-Kandahar-Spin-Buldak in terms of ensuring the transportation of track superstructure materials, sleepers, rails and fasteners of Kazakh production.
