Wang Yi summarizes Eurasia tour around trust, friendship, cooperation and partnership
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday summarized his recently concluded Eurasia tour around four key principles: trust as the cornerstone of peace, friendship as a valuable asset, cooperation as a driving force and partnership as a shared goal.
Wang made the remarks in Sofia following talks with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova. During the trip, he attended the seventh CICA Summit as special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping and visited Azerbaijan, Croatia, Montenegro and Bulgaria.
On trust, Wang said its deficit remains one of the major problems in international affairs. He argued that resolving conflicts, including those in Ukraine and the Middle East, requires renewed communication and dialogue.
During the CICA summit, Wang held meetings with representatives of Israel, Palestine and other Middle Eastern countries, while discussions with Balkan leaders also covered the Ukraine crisis and the regional situation. China called for dialogue, mutual understanding and political solutions.
Wang described friendship between peoples as the second pillar. He pointed to historical Silk Road ties with Azerbaijan, the legacy of Marco Polo linked to present-day Croatia, and long-standing cultural connections with Montenegro and Bulgaria.
The third focus was practical cooperation. Wang cited the Gobustan solar power plant in Azerbaijan, the Pelješac Bridge in Croatia, the Bar-Boljare highway in Montenegro and energy cooperation between China and Bulgaria.
He said China plans to expand cooperation with the four countries in trade, investment and infrastructure, while exploring new areas including artificial intelligence, green transition and links between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Middle Corridor.
Partnership was the fourth principle. Wang said China's foreign policy favors partnership and dialogue rather than alliances and confrontation.
He also addressed China-Europe relations, saying recent progress in trade and investment consultations showed that differences can be handled through dialogue and negotiation.
Wang further expressed readiness to develop cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries ahead of the mechanism's 15th anniversary next year.
According to CCTV+, China sees trust, historical ties, practical cooperation and long-term partnership as key elements of its future engagement with Eurasian countries.
