Preparations for the TESC 2024 scientific conference to be held on June 5-6 in Ashgabat are reaching the final stage. The conference is timed to coincide with World Environment Day, which emphasizes the importance of the topics to be discussed and draws the attention of the general public to the problems of ecology and sustainable development.

World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5, serves as a powerful reminder of the need for proactive action to preserve our planet. TESC 2024 will be an important step towards a sustainable future, bringing together scientists, researchers and professionals to work together to address the environmental challenges of our time.

The TESC 2024 scientific conference will bring together distinguished scientists and researchers from around the world, including NASA scientist Dana Chadwick and “tornado chaser” George Kourounis, who previously visited Turkmenistan as part of an expedition, as well as leading experts from the United Nations and the SPE Society of Petroleum Engineers

Dr. Dana Chadwick is a lead scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who is leading a project to measure methane from the International Space Station. Dr. Chadwick investigates the relationships between ecosystems, critical zone processes, and landscape evolution. Using imaging spectroscopy and lidar, Dr. Chadwick conducts extensive field campaigns and laboratory analyses, revealing the spatial distribution of ecosystem characteristics and linking these patterns to underlying processes.

George Kourounis, researcher, science communicator, broadcaster, and “storm chaser.” In 2013, he became the first person to set foot on the bottom of the fiery Darwaza gas crater. The expedition, funded by the National Geographic Society and filmed by the National Geographic Channel, aimed to take soil samples from the bottom of the crater to look for signs of life. Thanks to this expedition, George made it into the Guinness Book of World Records and the research team discovered several species of unusual microorganisms living in extreme conditions.

The TESC 2024 conference will discuss key issues related to energy prospects, new technologies and environmental aspects of hydrocarbon field development. Special attention will be paid to innovative approaches to hydrocarbon production with minimized environmental impact, methods to reduce methane and carbon dioxide emissions, initiatives to promote green energy and create favorable conditions for its development. Participants will also consider the future of energy, focusing on the transition to more sustainable and renewable energy sources, strategies for integrating and bringing Turkmen energy to the global markets, as well as methods of utilization of carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide in the development of oil and gas fields.

To date, more than 250 delegates from 31 countries have registered to participate in TESC 2024.
