President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with British Foreign Minister David Cameron


President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received on Wednesday, April 24, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the Great Britain David Cameron.
The guest conveyed warm greetings to the head of Turkmenistan from the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Charles III, and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The head of Turkmenistan addressed his best wishes in return and expressed confidence that the current visit will be an important step in the further development of bilateral relations.
Great Britain is one of the important partners of Turkmenistan in the European region. The parties have accumulated positive experience of cooperation in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, it was noted at the meeting.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that he warmly recalls his working visit to the UK to participate in the coronation ceremony of King Charles III, in a conversation with whom the commitment to developing the partnership between the two countries was confirmed.

During the meeting of the head of state with David Cameron, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan adheres to the status of permanent neutrality in its foreign policy, twice recognized by resolutions of the UN General Assembly, and carries out broad international cooperation in order to ensure peace, security and sustainable development on the planet, the news release of the Turkmen State Television and Radio reported.
Turkmenistan has put forward a number of international initiatives aimed at maintaining peace, trust and cultural dialogue within the framework of authoritative organizations, primarily the UN, which have received widespread support. Taking this opportunity, Serdar Berdimuhamedov thanked the British side for supporting the initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan within the UN General Assembly. In particular, gratitude was expressed for the support of the recently adopted resolution on the initiative of Turkmenistan declaring 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust.
In the context of trade and economic relations between the two countries, the dynamics of bilateral goods turnover and trade, fruitful interaction with British companies, and the possibilities of the Turkmen-British Trade and Industry Council for expanding cooperation were noted. Among its key areas are the oil and gas industry, agriculture and new technologies. As noted, British companies are provided with support to effectively conduct business in the Turkmen market.
One of the topics of discussion was climate change issues. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan fully supports international efforts on this track and is taking specific measures in the field of “green” development, an example of which is joining the Global Methane Commitment.
At the meeting, prospects for cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere and intensifying dialogue in the field of education, including through targeted programs and English language teaching, were discussed.
