The Institute of Regional and Country Studies of the People's University of China hosted a seminar “The current situation in Central Asia and cooperation between China and Central Asian countries.” Leading Chinese scientists gathered to discuss current issues of security and development in Central Asia, as well as prospects for expanding multifaceted cooperation between China and the countries of the region.

Deputy Director of the Institute for Social Development of Europe and Asia under the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Professor Xu Tao noted the importance of energy cooperation, in particular the gas pipeline project. He also pointed to the growing interest of Central Asian countries in environmental and green technologies, which opens up new opportunities for bilateral cooperation in new economic models and industries.

Deputy Director of the Central Asia Department of the Institute of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, emphasized the importance of the new mechanism of the “China + Central Asia” summit for deepening cooperation. In this regard, he proposed to create new multilateral economic and investment structures on its basis, building on already established long-term economic and trade ties, supported by standardized agreements and an established network of cooperation.

The seminar also noted the need to improve the quality of cooperation and search for new areas, such as science, technology, finance, digital economy, agriculture and small business.
