The Japanese government has begun preparations for a summer summit with five Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

The option of organizing a meeting in Kazakhstan in August is currently being explored. The exact schedule will be confirmed later. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will take part from Japan. It is expected that the parties will primarily discuss economic cooperation. This was reported by TASS, citing the Kyodo agency.

Since 2004, Japan has regularly held meetings with the five Central Asian countries at the level of foreign ministers. This year marks the 20th anniversary of this format, and therefore the parties intend to upgrade its status to a summit.

We previously wrote that Japan hopes to intensify ties with Central Asian countries using green technologies.

In January 2024, in Tokyo, Turkmenistan and Japan signed a memorandum of understanding that includes cooperation in the field of decarbonization.
