Judicial independence remains a fundamental principle of governance. When political disagreements reach a country's highest judicial institutions, legal disputes can develop into broader public confrontations.

On November 2, demonstrators gathered outside Poland's Constitutional Tribunal in Warsaw to express support for its suspended president, Bogdan Swieczkowski. Police officers remained deployed outside the building as tensions intensified between Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government and the opposition over control of the judiciary.

The latest demonstration followed clashes between protesters and police on Friday evening.

The confrontation escalated after the tribunal announced on its website that Swieczkowski had been suspended. A newly elected judge, whose legal status remains disputed, assumed temporary leadership of the court.

Amid the growing political dispute, Polish President Karol Nawrocki cut short his visit to Senegal and returned to Warsaw.

He called for urgent consultations with parliamentary parties in an effort to address the crisis.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Donald Tusk accused Nawrocki and the main opposition Law and Justice party, known as PiS, of undermining the rule of law. Tusk pledged to ensure that the Constitutional Tribunal could operate independently and in accordance with the country's constitution.

As reported by SSTV+, political tensions surrounding Poland's Constitutional Tribunal continue to escalate, with demonstrators gathering in Warsaw and the country's president calling for urgent talks between parliamentary parties.
