World Health Day in Turkmenistan: mass bike ride and honoring athletes
World Health Day, April 7, was celebrated in Turkmenistan with a mass bike ride with the participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The sports action started in Ashgabat at the monument "Bicycle" in the south of the Turkmen capital. The cycling event was attended by members of the government and Halk Maslahaty, heads of ministries and departments, public organizations, heads of diplomatic missions and local offices of international organizations. The crowded column also includes athletes of the Turkmenistan national cycling team, students of the capital's universities, pupils of the Training School for Young Olympians and secondary schools, the Palace of Orphans "Dovletliler Koshgi".
The Head of state led a bike ride that finished in the center of the capital.
On the same day, in Ashgabat, at the martial arts sports complex of the Olympic Town, a ceremony was held honoring the winners who successfully performed at international competitions in January-April 2024. On behalf of the head of state and the national leader of the Turkmen people, memorable gifts were presented to the athletes who demonstrated high results.
Among them are Turkmen parapowerlifters (World Cup, February 25– March 8, Dubai, UAE); sambo wrestlers (Cup of the President of Belarus, February 7-10, Minsk), (Founders Cup, March 21-24, Moscow); taekwondo athletes (ITF tournament, February 29-March 3, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia); karate (Asian Kyokushin Championship, January 4-7, Antalya, Turkey; World Fudokan Championship March 2-12, Ivanovo, Russia), as well as boxers who became gold medalists of the international tournament (January 31-February 3, Aktau, Kazakhstan).
On the same day, the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports hosted a gift- giving ceremony on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan and the national leader to the silver and bronze medalists of international competitions for January-March.
In recent years, winter sports have also received a new impetus in our country's development. So, on April 15-20, Ashgabat will host an International ice hockey tournament.
