Turkmenistan has registered 21 boxers to participate in the upcoming Asian Under- 22 Boxing Championship, which will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, on April 25.

Boxers born in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 will be able to compete in the under-22 age group in this Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) tournament. And boxers born in 2006 and 2007 will be eligible to participate in the youth age group.

Turkmenistan was very close to qualifying boxers for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris by participating in the first World Olympic qualifying tournament in March this year in Italy. Turkmen boxers also shone at the Asian Youth and Junior Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, last November, writes ASBC news.

Tenilbek Dzhumakulov is the head coach of the national team, which selected 10 guys under 22 and 11 in the younger age category in the upcoming Asian Championship. Durdymammet Kuljaev, General Secretary of the Boxing Federation of Turkmenistan, will be the team manager in Astana.

Alisher Orazbayev, a 19-year-old athlete in the lightest weight (54 kg), silver medalist of the 2019 Asian Championship among schoolchildren, will make his debut in the under-22 age group in the capital of Kazakhstan.

Guvanch Ahmedov from Lebap, like Orazbayev, just joined the under-22 age group in January this year, he was the bronze medalist at the strong Liventsev memorial tournament in Minsk and claims a medal in the featherweight (57 kg).

Muhammet Babayev, a 19-year-old from Ashgabat, participated in the elite men's World Boxing Championship 2023 in Tashkent and is one of the best names in the U22 national team, he will fight for at least a medal in the welterweight division (71 kg).
