Balkan shipyard begins assembly of Damen dredger

The Balkan shipbuilding and ship repair plant in Turkmenistan will begin assembling the Damen CSD 650 dredger under the supervision of “Damen Shipyards Group” engineers. This significant event marks a new stage in the development of the shipbuilding industry of Turkmenistan. This was reported on the website of the “Turkmendenizderyayollary” agency.
The assembly of the CSD 650 dredger is carried out to order of the business company "Söwda Gurluşyk Maslahat". In preparation for this project, a representative of the Balkan plant recently visited the Kingdom of the Netherlands, where he took part in testing the dredger. This allowed us to get acquainted with its technical characteristics and operating features, as well as prepare for the acceptance of design documents and parts for assembly in Turkmenistan.
In addition to direct participation in the assembly of the dredger, during the visit of the Balkan representative to the Netherlands, there were held meetings with the management of “Damen Shipyards Group”. A special topic of these meetings was localization, that is, the establishment of joint construction of Damen dredgers in Turkmenistan.
Damen dredgers are in high demand in Turkmenistan, where they are used for dredging, port construction and repair, and sand and gravel recovery.
The assembly of the CSD 650 at the Balkan plant will be the first step towards localizing the production of Damen dredgers in Turkmenistan. This will not only reduce the cost of their purchase, but also create new jobs, as well as improve the qualifications of Turkmen specialists in the field of shipbuilding.
