The President of Turkmenistan and the Iranian Foreign Minister discussed cooperation in the fields of energy and transport


Ways to expand bilateral Turkmen-Iranian ties were discussed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahiyan, who arrived in Ashgabat on Thursday, March 28.
Iran has traditionally been one of the most important trade and economic partners of Turkmenistan, the head of state stated, noting the role of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission for Economic Cooperation, as a result of which specific measures were agreed upon to implement projects in the electric power and transport sectors.
The parties focused on the search for new forms and methods of interaction in the fuel and energy complex in accordance with modern requirements, activation of relations in the field of export and transit of energy carriers, the Turkmen State Television news outlet reported.

During his visit to Ashgabat, the Iranian Foreign Minister will hold talks with top officials of Turkmenistan on expanding bilateral ties and regional cooperation. The intensification of Iranian-Turkmen cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, transit and joint fight against terrorism at the regional level are the main topics on the agenda of negotiations at the official level, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.
On the eve of his departure, the chief Iranian diplomat posted a message on Twitter saying: "I am heading to Ashgabat in accordance with a diligent foreign policy and dynamic diplomacy to expand and strengthen ties between Iran and Turkmenistan."
