The head of the International Tennis Federation presented Serdar Berdimuhamedov with an ITF certificate


The head of the International Tennis Federation, David Haggerty, presented the ITF certificate to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, noting that Turkmenistan has achieved great success in the development of this sport.
At a reception with the President of Turkmenistan on Wednesday, March 27, David Haggerty and the head of the Asian Tennis Federation, Yuri Polsky, expressed interest in cooperation with Turkmenistan, where special attention is paid to stimulating and supporting sports, establishing a healthy and active lifestyle in society, the Turkmen State Television news outlet reported.
The Head of State thanked for the certificate and said that he regards it as a sign of international recognition of the strategy implemented in Turkmenistan for the development and popularization of sports, including tennis.

In recent years, the number of young people who are interested in this sport has been growing. Since 1993, the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan has been a member of the International Tennis Federation, and since 2001 – the Asian Tennis Federation. In cooperation with them, training seminars for Turkmen coaches are organized, international children's and youth competitions are held. Among them is the Central Asian Championship among young tennis players under 12 years old, held in the summer of 2023 in Ashgabat.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov said that Turkmenistan would support the initiatives and proposals of the International and Asian Tennis Federations to promote tennis in our country and in the world and suggested exploring the possibilities of using Turkmenistan's sports infrastructure for international tournaments, training camps and master classes.

During their stay in Ashgabat, the heads of the ITF and ATF will discuss with representatives of the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan ways to expand cooperation, as well as get acquainted with sports facilities.
American David Haggerty was re-elected president of the International Tennis Federation in September 2023. He will hold the post until 2027. Haggerty has been the head of the organization since 2015.
At the end of 2023, Kazakh Yuri Polsky was elected president of the Asian Tennis Federation for the next four years. The Chairman of the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan, Eziz Dovletov, was then elected Vice-president of the ATF.
