The UN General Assembly adopted the first resolution on AI

The UN General Assembly adopted the first resolution in the field of artificial intelligence, “Harnessing the power of safe, secure and reliable artificial intelligence systems for sustainable development.”
The document, initiated by the United States, aims to ensure peaceful cooperation in the field of AI. It calls on countries to work towards digital transformation, including respecting intellectual property rights, protecting personal data, and ensuring transparency, predictability and reliability of AI.
120 states were co-authors.
“The groundbreaking resolution, adopted today, strengthens the global consensus on safe, secure, trustworthy AI systems that promote sustainable development and respect fundamental freedoms,” U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said.
The first UN meeting on AI took place in July last year. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres supported the proposal to create an agency that would formulate global standards for regulating AI.
