International Novruz Day was celebrated at the UN headquarters in New York

The Permanent Missions of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Iran, Iraq, and Turkey to the United Nations held a festive event on the occasion of the International Novruz Day.

UN Secretary–General Antonio Guterres said in his video message that Novruz is a celebration of new beginnings, it unites more than 300 million people in the world and symbolizes the community of different peoples and cultures. According to him, the values of this holiday are in tune with the principles of UN peace, including human rights and dignity. The UN Secretary General stressed that in today's difficult times, Novruz promotes dialogue, good-neighborliness and reconciliation.

The UN chief urged to be guided by the "spirit of solidarity of Novruz", strengthen harmony in protecting the planet and move forward to a brighter future as one human family.

Addressing the participants of the event, Chairman of the 78th session of the General Assembly Dennis Francis highly appreciated the unity of the missions of 12 UN Member states representing different regions of the world in the solemn celebration of Novruz.

He noted that in these difficult times, Novruz takes on a new meaning and is a symbol of resilience, and called on all UN member states to unite in building a secure future for our world.

The participants of the event stressed that Novruz, which has a history of about 3 thousand years, symbolizes not only the beginning of the year and the awakening of nature, but also kindness and mutual understanding, unity and harmony with nature, mercy, nobility and generosity, peaceful and prosperous life.
