Foreign policy initiatives of Turkmenistan were announced at international platforms in Geneva


The delegation of Turkmenistan, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Myakhri Byashimova, took part in the high-level segment of the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, convened by the UN Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva on March 13.
Myahri Byashimova voiced at the forum a number of initiatives promoted by Turkmenistan in the international arena, coinciding with the priorities of the 2030 Agenda in the economic, transport, communications and energy sectors. Namely, the country’s readiness for international cooperation in the development of the Global Framework for the Transition to a Circular Economy, the creation of the Global Atlas of Sustainable Transport Connectivity, as well as the Alliance for Global Energy Security and Sustainable Development was confirmed.

On March 14, bilateral meetings of the Turkmen delegation with the leadership of the International Organization for Migration and the World Trade Organization took place, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.
In particular, during a meeting with the head of the IOM, held as part of an exhibition on the status of women in Afghanistan, organized by the IOM and UN Women on the sidelines of a regional forum, the parties exchanged views on the situation of women in this country. The Turkmen side emphasized the importance of maintaining relations and dialogue with the neighboring country, strengthening this fact with the example of the recently held trade and economic exhibition of Afghanistan in Ashgabat, following which a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Turkmen and Afghan representatives of the private sector.
The IOM Director General noted the importance of the steps taken by Turkmenistan, making a feasible contribution to improving the situation of Afghan women.

At the meeting with the Deputy Executive Secretary of the WTO, an exchange of views took place on the processes and steps taken by Turkmenistan to join the Organization.
In addition, on Thursday, within the framework of the UNECE Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva organized a side event “Involving youth in the processes of achieving the SDGs: global and national political challenges”, during which a book by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov “Youth is the Support of the Motherland.” was presented. The event was attended by the delegation of Turkmenistan, UN regional coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko, as well as heads and representatives of permanent missions accredited to the UN Office in Geneva, including Azerbaijan, Hungary, Germany, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan.

Representatives of student youth of Turkmenistan who participated in the event also made a presentation of their activities within the framework of groups created at the UN.
