Turkmenistan will strengthen the punishment of corrupt officials
The anti-corruption laws will be reviewed and penalties for corruption crimes will be strengthened in Turkmenistan. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave such an assignment to the Parliament at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. This was preceded by a speech of Chairman of the State Service of Turkmenistan for Combating Economic Crimes M. Chakyev that the crimes of a corrupt nature were identified in some industries - the use of public office for the purpose of private gain by a number of responsible officials, bribery and embezzlement of public funds. The head of the anti-corruption department also said that proceedings were instituted against a number of officials and significant amounts of money in national and foreign currency were confiscated from them. Having heard the information, the President of Turkmenistan appealed to the leaders and said that he would continue the uncompromising struggle against corrupt officials and bribe-takers and would uphold promises made to the people of Turkmenistan to eradicate this phenomenon in the country. The Head of State addressed the Speaker of the Mejlis A.Nurberdiyeva and instructed to review the existing anti-corruption laws in the direction of increasing responsibility for the commission of corruption crimes. The Turkmen Leader reminded that pardons are not applied to people convicted under these articles. He also stressed that, if necessary, the staff of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes will be increased.
