The President of Uzbekistan has approved the creation of a free trade zone on the border with Turkmenistan

On February 28, Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on the establishment of the Uzbekistan—Turkmenistan free trade zone. This is reported by the legal information channel of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The new zone is located on an area of 3.1 hectares in the Shavatsky district of Khorezm. An infrastructure will be created here for storing, sorting, marketing goods, as well as for transport and other services.
The free trade zone will be managed by the directorate of the Hazarasp FEZ. The zone is created for 30 years with the possibility of further extension.
Inside the zone, it is allowed to sell products manufactured in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan in the "free customs zone" mode. The reception, storage and sorting of products using modern technologies will also be arranged here, writes on Thursday Spot.uz .
It is reported that a Single Window center will be opened for entrepreneurs in the zone with the provision of customs, tax, certification, phytosanitary, veterinary, and transport services. It was also instructed to equip banking and currency exchange offices, hotels, a medical center and other infrastructure.
Access to the territory of the zone will be organized through separate checkpoints. Citizens and foreign visitors of Turkmenistan will be able to stay here without a visa for up to 15 days.
Buildings and structures in the shopping area will be leased to business entities through online auctions. The Directorate, together with the Khokimiyat of the Khorezm region and the Ministry of Construction, was instructed to prepare the general plan of the zone and design estimates for the facilities inside.

The construction of a trade zone at the Shavat — Dashoguz border crossing started in October 2022, during the visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Ashgabat.
At the talks between the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and the head of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in August 2023, the need for the early launch of the Dashoguz—Shavat joint trade zone was noted.
Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are optimizing fees and payments for international cargo transportation.
