Turkmen legislators advance transparency and effective lawmaking

FDuring February 20 and 23, the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Governance Support Program held a four-day seminar in partnership with the Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan, introducing the members of Parliament (MPs) to international best practices in lawmaking.

A well-functioning legislative system is crucial for ensuring good governance, upholding the rights and interests of citizens, and fostering socio-economic development. USAID partners with the Mejlis of Turkmenistan in strengthening the national legislative system to help effectively implement the country’s socio-economic and good governance programs. In the past, USAID organized seminars and training sessions for Turkmen MPs on global best practices in parliamentary processes and arranged a study tour for Turkmen MPs to explore first-hand legislative systems in the United States.

USAID’s seminar on global law-making methods, engaged participants in interactive sessions, case studies, and hands-on exercises for comprehensive capacity building. Through such initiatives, USAID supports strengthening the transparency, accountability, and effectiveness of Turkmenistan’s legislative system and contributes to social and economic development in the country.
