The Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva, together with the UNECE, organized a side event on the topic “Towards sustainable transport: best practices, challenges and solutions” within the framework of the 86th high-level session of the Inland Transport Committee.

The event, held on Thursday, was attended by about 70 representatives of more than 40 countries and international organizations, both at the level of heads of diplomatic missions and international experts.

The meeting was attended by the heads of transport departments of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Iran, as well as Deputy Executive Secretary of the UNECE Dmitry Maryasin, Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union Umberto de Pretto and others, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The meeting participants highly appreciated the leading role of Turkmenistan in promoting international cooperation in such an important segment of sustainable development as transport, and the initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan to create favorable international conditions in the transport sector.

Representatives of the transport sector from various countries and international organizations exchanged views on the importance of the role of transport in ensuring smooth trade, economic growth and employment, the need to mitigate the effects of climate change and adapt transport chains to them.

The event also presented recommendations and opportunities for increasing the efficiency of development of the sustainable transport sector, strengthening cooperation in the field of environmentally friendly and sustainable transport communications, as well as the transition to the introduction and use of modern environmental, clean and resource-saving technologies in the international transport system.
