Kyrgyzstan invites Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to join the TurkPA
The delegation of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan has participated as a guest of honor at the 7th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries (TurkPA), hosted today by Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The parliamentary delegations of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Turkey met in the state residence "Ala-Archa". Uzbekistan was also invited as guest. Hungarian legislators attended the event as observers. Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament Dastan Jumabekov expressed the hope that Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan in the future will become the full members of the TurkPA. In his opinion, the full membership of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in the Assembly would enhance the political and economic potential of the organization, and promote the solution of urgent regional issues. "Their presence (of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) is the main goal that is necessary to support the unified socio-economic and cultural development of all countries," the head of the Jogorku Kenesh said during the plenary session. The Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries (Turk PA), established in 2008, is a parliamentary union of Turkic-speaking countries. Its activities are aimed at forming a mechanism for inter-parliamentary relations between Turkic-speaking countries, rapprochement of political views, information exchange, propaganda of the Turkic culture, expansion of economic ties, implementation of joint projects, and search for solutions to the problems of the Turkic world. The TurkPA cooperates with the European Parliament and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
