Specialists of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan improved their competencies in the field of risk management and green channels during a three-day workshop held in Ashgabat by the Border Management Program in Central Asia (BOMCA 10).

The workshop, held from 14 to 16 February, supported Customs in developing and improving its risk management strategy through the use of innovative methods, tools and information systems used to classify and profile customs risks.

Based on discussions and assessment of the current system, the group of experts identified new areas for improvement and developed recommendations for further modernization of risk management systems and green channels in Turkmenistan.

The “green channel” system allows for simplified customs controls, which makes it possible for improved flows of passengers and goods and effectively copes with growing trade volumes, without reducing the effectiveness of controls and further requiring more customs personnel.

This workshop continued a series of specialized events in each Central Asian country to facilitate trade flows across borders and is aimed at further supporting the process of regional economic integration.
