Ambassador: Russia and Turkmenistan expect improved results of foreign economic activity

Currently, Russia is one of the five main trading partners of Turkmenistan. The volume of mutual trade turnover in 2022 exceeded 1.6 billion US dollars. “In connection with the full discharge of contractual obligations for the supply of Turkmen natural gas to Russia, we expect an improvement in the results of foreign economic activity in 2023,” Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin said at a briefing for representatives of Russian media accredited in Turkmenistan.
The Ambassador stated a noticeable increase in business contacts following the results of the First Russian-Turkmen business forum, held in January 2023 in Ashgabat, as well as the positive dynamics in the volume of foreign trade in non- energy goods. This was reported on the website of the Russian Embassy in Turkmenistan.
Characterizing the current level of relations between Russia and Turkmenistan, the Ambassador said that the Russian-Turkmen dialogue is being reinforced at high and senior levels. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov visited Moscow on May 9, 2023 as an honored guest of the festive events dedicated to the 78th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and on December 26, 2023, he visited St. Petersburg to participate in the informal Summit of the Heads of the CIS countries. In January 2023, Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin visited Ashgabat.
“Such a busy schedule of contacts clearly demonstrates that the leaders of our countries are using all opportunities and platforms, including multilateral formats, to discuss the most pressing topics on the bilateral agenda. I am sure that new interesting meetings will take place this year as well,” the Ambassador added.
During the briefing, he announced that the next meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission, as well as the Second Russian-Turkmen Business Forum, is planned for the first half of this year.
