The ancient Turkmen rite of singing and dancing kushdepti was recognized as one of the masterpieces of the intangible cultural heritage of mankind and is inscribed in the UNESCO List. This is reported by the official website of the organization.
Decisions on the application of Turkmenistan and other states were announced at the 12th session of the intergovernmental committee for the safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage in the South Korean city of Jeju.
The list of the intangible cultural heritage was supplemented this year by the Azerbaijani tradition of cooking dolma, the Kazakh game Assyk, the Armenian dance kochari, the Kyrgyz game on horses, as well as other forms of folk art.
The ritual dance kushtdepti, performed to the singing couplets with an increasing rhythm, is present at almost all the festivities in Turkmenistan. This incendiary dance has a very ancient origin, it has something mysterious, fascinating, and at the same time it is jubilant, energetic and cheerful.
