The prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN in the field of human rights were considered in Geneva


The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva, Vepa Hajiyev, met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk on Tuesday, February 6, at the headquarters of OHCHR.
The UN is a priority partner and Turkmenistan is committed to the values and principles underlying the UN system, considering it important to maintain close contacts with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Hajiyev said.
He noted the special role of the OHCHR Regional Office for Central Asia, established in 2008 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The High Commissioner also called the Central Asian region important in the context of cooperation in the field of fundamental human rights and confirmed the desire of the UN Human Rights Office to ensure the protection of human rights for all people, expand the powers and opportunities to exercise their rights and help those responsible for the observance of these rights to achieve their realization, strengthen the potential of civil society in order to effectively use UN programs in the field of human rights a human being, the press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan says.
The parties agreed to expand cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN OHCHR, the Foreign Ministry added.
