Turkmen-American project: digital music heritage
The Turkmen-American project on the restoration and digitization of rare Turkmen music samples was completed. This is reported by the US diplomatic mission in Ashgabat. The US Embassy provided a grant in 2012 to keep the information of rare audio recordings of Turkmen music, which were in poor technical quality due to the deterioration of the original ferromagnetic film and vinyl. As a result, unique samples of Turkmen music were digitized. Among them there are records of such corypheuses of folk music as Mustak Aymedov, Patyshaguly Girmanov, Odeniyaz Nobatov and Gurt Yakubov. The American Embassy in Ashgabat supports a number of projects in the field of protection of historical and cultural heritage. This assistance is provided under the patronage of the “Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation” (AFCP). As noted in the message of the US Embassy, this work shows the respect of the American side to the culture of Turkmenistan and the prospects for bilateral cooperation in this field.
