Tesla Motors pioneers new urban energy solution
The world's biggest battery was officially commissioned in Australia on Friday. The project has been done by Tesla, Tesla, well-known American automaker, energy storage company and solar panel manufacturer.
100 MW/129 MWh battery or Powerpack system was built in the rural town of Jamestown north of Adelaide and connected to a wind farm operated by French energy firm Neoen. It can supply electricity for more than 30,000 households.
It is designed to ease South Australia's energy deficit and to address peak demand in summer periods. The battery will be used as additional source to existing power supply systems.
Earlier this year Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk promised to fulfill the project of battery farm, worth over US $ 50 million, in 100 days and he has kept his word.
Tesla hopes the ambitious battery project would serve as an model for future sustainable energy solution all over the world.
