Japan became the fifth lunar power in the world. The Japanese lunar lander SLIM (Smart Lander for Investigating Moon) made a soft landing on the surface of the Moon.

This was reported by the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency JAXA. Communication with the module has been established. More accurate data will be published later, since solar panels have not started accumulating energy to power on-board systems and charge batteries.

The Japanese SLIM spacecraft touched the surface of the Moon exactly on schedule.

The mission program included the release of two small robotic probes - a jumping one and a ball-shaped one, which splits into two parts before touching the Moon. The probes are equipped with cameras and were supposed to capture the moment of landing on the Moon. So far there is no clarity on this issue.

SLIM is a module that is designed to test the technology for high-precision landing of vehicles on the lunar surface. It must study the relief and craters of the Earth's satellite. Its height is 2.4 m, width – 2.7 m. It weighs about 200 kg. The device is equipped with a camera that allows you to measure the amount of iron and other elements in the rocks of the lunar surface.
