A single time zone will be established in Kazakhstan

Starting from March 1, Kazakhstan will establish a single time zone. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic.
“According to the changes, a single time zone will be applied throughout the country from 00:00 on March 1, 2024. Thus, the fifth time zone (UTC+5) will be applied to the entire territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the message says.
Currently, there are two time zones in Kazakhstan — UTC+5 and UTC+6. Most of the country, with the exception of the western regions, is located in the UTC+6 zone.
Thus, on the night of February 29, 2024 to March 1, 2024 (at 00:00) in the cities of Astana, Alma-Ata, Shymkent, Akmola, Almaty, Zhambyl, Karaganda, Kostanay, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, Turkestan, East Kazakhstan, Abai, Zhetysu and Ulytau regions the hands will be turned back an hour.
Research work on the study of time transfer in Kazakhstan has been conducted since 2020. In 2023, a special working group consisting of scientists and experts was formed. According to the members of the group, with a single time zone, most regions of the country will use the time closest to the natural one. Moreover, a single time zone will help eliminate barriers between residents of different regions, improve transport coordination, and also have a beneficial effect on the interaction of government agencies and emergency services.
