Celebrities helped make beekeeping a popular new hobby

Beekeeping is one of the hottest hobby trends of 2024, thanks to legions of fans taking cues from celebrity beekeepers, according to a new survey.
Stars creating buzz around this pastime include Beyoncé, Scarlett Johansson, David Beckham, Sting and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The survey of 2,000 adults found that almost half (47%) are looking for more unusual hobbies such as origami and foraging in the wild.
Other activities gaining traction among survey participants include open mic poetry, flower arranging, and geocaching (a tourist game using GPS to find geocaches hidden by other gamers).
49% of respondents prefer to give up sedentary hobbies, such as reading, in favor of ones that get them outdoors and moving. And half of those surveyed prefer activities that are good for the environment in some way, such as creating insect “hotels” in their gardens. Small artificial buildings that serve as places for long- term residence or hibernation for crawling and flying insects.
A randomized survey was conducted in the United States by the OnePoll service on the occasion of the January 12 release of the action movie “The Beekeeper” starring Jason Statham.

"I'm not surprised there's so much buzz about beekeeping," the film's director, David Ayer said. “I hope our film will only enhance that.”
Indeed, 14% of survey respondents reported finding inspiration for a hobby in the film.
Ayer and his co-stars actually practiced beekeeping on set, and Jason Statham learned how to open a hive and work with bees.
“He was always willing to immerse himself in a movie, he really got in touch with the whole zen of beekeeping, which was quite therapeutic in between all the grueling action scenes.”
