BP will produce deep-lying gas in the Caspian Sea
Drilling of the first well for gas production from deep-lying formations of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli/ACG block of fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is planned this year. Tamam Bayatli, Head of the Public Relations Department at BP-Azerbaijan, said this in an interview with the Report news agency on January 11.
According to her, the British BP Corporation and its partners had previously been privy to the availability of gas reserves in the lower layers of the exploited oil reservoirs of the ACG field block.
"We needed to clarify, supplement and evaluate the available data. To this end, in February 2023, we began drilling an appraisal well, which lasted three months," she said.
Bayatli noted that after the completion of drilling operations in April last year, the collected data were sent for analysis in the laboratory: "As we expected, the presence of gas reserves was confirmed. However, additional data and results need to be seriously analyzed, and this process continues."
"This year, it is planned to drill the first well to extract gas reserves in deep formations at the ACG block. Now work is underway to plan the drilling of the well," Bayatli summed up.
According to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, since the beginning of operation of the ACG and Shah Deniz fields, more than 425.3 billion cubic meters of gas have been produced as of January 1, 2024.
