India's State Oil and Gas Corporation has started oil production at its flagship deepwater asset
The Indian State Oil and Gas Corporation (ONGC) has successfully started oil production as part of a deepwater asset in the Krishna Godavari basin offshore the country's east coast. This is reported by Asian News International (ANI), one of the largest news agencies in India and South Asia.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called this an outstanding step on India's energy path, which will be promising for the country's economy.
According to the corporation, the implementation of project 98/2 will contribute to an increase in the total volume of oil production by 11% and gas by 15%.
ONGC implemented the first phase of the project in March 2020, achieving the start of gas production at the U field of the KG-DWN-98/2 block in record time – 10 months. With the start of production of the first oil on Sunday, the State Oil and Gas Corporation of India is approaching the completion of the second phase of the project.
It is noteworthy that the state corporation for the first time applied the innovative pipe-in-pipe technology. Most of the production work was carried out at the modular products manufacturing plant in Kattupalli, India.
The remaining gas and oil fields in the block are planned to be put into operation by mid-2024.
