The Israeli government on Sunday approved the appointment of a new foreign minister to replace Eli Cohen, who will become energy minister as part of a pre- agreed ministerial rotation, a government statement said, Reuters reported.

Appointments are subject to the approval of the Israeli parliament.

Cohen will continue to serve as a member of the security cabinet, and Israel Katz will move from the post of energy minister to the post of Israeli foreign minister.

Eli Cohen, as head of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, visited Ashgabat in April 2023, becoming the first member of the Israeli government to visit the Central Asian state for the first time in 30 years. As part of this visit, a new Israeli embassy building was opened in the Turkmen capital.
