The ranking of “Women Leaders of Central Asia” was published in Uzbekistan; it was prepared by the Yuksalish movement together with the Institute of Social and Economic Initiatives with the support of experts.

The ranking is designed to recognize women who have a significant impact on various spheres of life in the region, including politics, business, education, science, art and social issues. When identifying the level of influence of candidates, experts relied on both mathematical and empirical methods, the movement’s press release notes.

At the first stage of selection, candidates were assessed according to: position held and level of influence in decision making (10 points); citation and recognition (10 points); put forward socio-political and economic initiatives (5 points).

At the second stage, online voting was held with the participation of more than 300 experts from Central Asian countries. The experts who took part in the voting included ombudsmen, heads of leading think tanks, parliamentarians, academics, as well as representatives of civil society institutions and international organizations accredited in Central Asia.

The Top 40 women leaders of Central Asia included two representatives of Turkmenistan - Chairman of the Mejlis Dunyagozel Gulmanova and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Myakhri Byashimova.

34-year-old Dunyagozel Gulmanova is the youngest speaker of parliament in the history of Turkmenistan. Experts noted that her election is a sign of important changes in the country's political landscape. According to the results of the last parliamentary elections, 25.60% of deputies were women. The composition of deputies has become significantly younger: about 10% are citizens under 30 years of age, 40.80% are under 40 years of age.

Myahri Byashimova, in addition to her main job responsibilities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, actively promotes projects related to the development of the “green economy”, the use of new environmentally friendly technologies, and participates in high-level UN meetings.

In recent years, platforms have been created for leading women of Central Asian countries to communicate, expand cooperation and exchange experiences. These are the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asia, business forums with the participation of business women from the countries of the region and other events.
