During the event, the leaders of the CIS countries discussed the priority areas of the Organization’s activities, plans to strengthen and further develop mutually beneficial cooperation. There was also an exchange of views on current issues of interaction within the CIS.

In his address to his colleagues, Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude for the accepted invitation to come to St. Petersburg. The President of the Russian Federation noted that from the new year, the chairmanship in the CIS will pass from Kyrgyzstan to Russia, which has already presented the concept of its chairmanship and an action plan for its implementation, including about 150 points. “At the same time, we are ready to take into account additional ideas and considerations of all partners in the Commonwealth,” Putin said, according to the website of the President of the Russian Federation.

He recalled that in June an agreement was signed between the member states of the Commonwealth on free trade in services and investments and noted that work with Commonwealth partners will continue in favor of a more active transition in mutual settlements to national currencies, and also touched upon issues of cultural and humanitarian interactions.
