Opening of the UN-Habitat representative office was discussed in Ashgabat


A round table on Turkmenistan's cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) was held in Ashgabat on Wednesday, December 13.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahri Bashimova, Interregional Adviser for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of UN-Habitat Katya Schaefer, as well as representatives of relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan.
During the event, the parties exchanged views on further actions to open a UN- Habitat representative office in Turkmenistan, and noted the need to develop a legal framework for cooperation.
The participants noted the dynamics of the development of partnerships between the relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and UN-Habitat.
Cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme on Human Settlements contributes to the further promotion of national urban policy, as well as rules, principles of planning and design, urban economics and finance.
Turkmenistan's readiness to host the UN-Habitat country office was announced at the 2023 High-level Political Forum in New York, during which a parallel event was held with the presentation of the Arkadag city model for the implementation of SDG 11.
