Serdar Berdimuhamedov: Our neutrality is the doctrine of the development of peaceful and fraternal relations
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated his compatriots on the International Day of Neutrality and the 28th anniversary of the permanent neutrality of independent Turkmenistan, which are celebrated on December 12.
"Our neutrality is the doctrine of developing peaceful and fraternal relations that unite the peoples of the planet in the name of lofty goals," the Head of state said in a festive address to the people.
Based on the legal status of permanent neutrality, our independent state pursues a far-sighted and purposeful foreign policy that fully supports the efforts of the international community to achieve global peace, security and sustainable development, Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed.
"Being at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, in the center of the Great Silk Road, our Motherland has established harmonious cooperation with the states of the world and reputable international organizations, has accumulated positive experience in forming the most effective ways of mutually beneficial relations."
In 2017, the UN General Assembly adopted a historic Resolution declaring December 12 the International Day of Neutrality, recognizing that the constructive neutrality of our independent state can serve as a model for the countries of the world.
The legal status of neutrality provides for strict adherence to the norms of international law, the use of the country's geopolitical and geo-economic potential in the name of peaceful life and its creative development.
"In this context, we attach great importance to strengthening and enriching our cooperation in various fields with the United Nations, the European Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as well as with the states of the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East Europe and America," the head of Turkmenistan noted.
"Our proposals in the field of developing trade and economic relations, environmental security in connection with climate change, environmental protection, energy security, and the creation of international transport corridors are widely supported around the world. The activity of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in Ashgabat is another evidence of the recognition by the world community of our peaceful foreign policy."
Based on the legal status of permanent neutrality in domestic and foreign policy, as well as on the existing potential, we will make every effort to transform our independent state into a leading, prosperous, friendly country in the world, said Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Today, the President of Turkmenistan took part in the solemn ceremony of laying flowers at the Monument of Neutrality.
Among the participants of the ceremony were also members of the government, heads and representatives of the Mejlis, military and law enforcement agencies, ministries and departments, ambassadors of Turkmenistan to foreign countries, heads of diplomatic missions and international structures accredited in our country, elders, as well as foreign delegates of the international conference "Dialogue – a guarantee of Peace", high-level meetings of the Group of Friends neutrality in the name of peace, security and sustainable development.
