Afghanistan hopes for the speedy resumption of interbank financing channels for the implementation of the Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan - India (TAPI) gas pipeline project. The trade attaché of Afghanistan in Ashgabat, Mohammad Harun Saidi, told a TASS correspondent.

“We want our money, frozen in banks, to quickly become available and [channels] to open international institutions that should finance and help us. Our share of participation in TAPI is $150 million,” the Russian agency quotes Saidi as saying.

He also noted that the TAPI project will provide great prospects for further business growth in the participating countries and will bring them closer together.

TAPI is a gas pipeline project through which Turkmenistan will supply gas to Pakistan, Afghanistan and India. It will pass through the territory of these four states: from the Galkynysh gas field in southern Turkmenistan through the Afghan cities of Herat and Kandahar, Pakistani Quetta and Multan to the city of Fazilka in western India, near the Indian-Pakistani border. Negotiations on the construction of TAPI have been ongoing since the mid-1990s. In March 2022, the Asian Development Bank suspended its participation in the project until the Taliban government was recognized by the UN and major world economies.
