Trade turnover between Russia and Turkmenistan this year increased by 11.6%, this is a huge breakthrough, Mikhail Rumyantsev, executive director of the Russian-Turkmen Business Council says. According to him, the growth of this indicator is affected by the increase in transportation - by 125.8% - through Turkmenistan from Iran to different regions of Russia, and there is huge potential for increasing the indicator. He spoke about this at the 4th International Foreign Economic Forum “Challenges and Solutions for Business: Synergy of Competencies”, organized by the Russian Economic University. G.V. However, different gauge widths - 1520 mm in Turkmenistan and 1435 mm in Iran - require the replacement of carriage wheels at the Serakhs-Serakhs border crossing when entering and exiting the country. “Now reconstruction will be carried out there at an accelerated pace. This will reduce costs and products will arrive much faster. Thanks to the Eastern branch of the North-South ITC and the fact that wagons can be attached to the assembled rolling stock, it will be possible to increase the volume of products supplied in both directions,” Rumyantsev noted.

“Automobiles cannot transport goods in the same quantities as by rail. In addition, gasoline is becoming more expensive, and the railway, which passes through Turkmenistan and Iran with unloading at the port of Bandar Abbas, is a potential that we are ready to support in every possible way. Moreover, to help not only on the road, but also to integrate Russian business into Turkmenistan, help it start working in this country, and also help with the promotion of funds,” the expert said.

Due to the fact that bases will be created on the territory of Turkmenistan in the near future, the state can become a hub through which exporting countries will be able to ship goods to Afghanistan in the future, Rumyantsev added.
