Turkmenistan takes part in NAM Conference on women empowerment
The International Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement on the Empowerment of Women started today in Baku. The Turkmen delegation is also taking part in the meeting.
It is planned to hold several interactive panel discussions throughout the conference. Azerbaijani Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva, Chairman of the Board of the State Examination Center Maleika Abbaszade, first Ombudsman of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova, and other officials took part in the opening ceremony.
In her address to the audience, Chairman of the Central Council of the Union of Women of Turkmenistan Akjemal Durdyeva noted that Turkmenistan actively supports gender equality in all spheres. "Respect for women is reflected in the mentality of the Turkmen people. Gender equality is one of the main directions of our activities. All obligations aimed at eradication of discrimination against women are being fulfilled," Durdyyeva stressed.
The conference is also attended by international organizations, including the UN, ISESCO, the International Foundation for Turkic Culture and Heritage and others. The event brought together experts from all over the world: Turkey, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Sudan, Russia, Indonesia, Egypt, Venezuela, Palestine, India, the United Arab Emirates and other states.
The Non-Aligned Movement unites countries that have declared non-participation in military-political blocs and peaceful coexistence on the principles of independence and equality as the basis of their foreign policy. It includes 120 States, and a number of other countries and international organizations have observer status in it.
