Japanese Prime Minister called strengthening relations with Central Asia an urgent task

Strengthening relations with Central Asian countries is an urgent task for Japan. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told reporters about this following negotiations in Tokyo with President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov.
“The countries of Central Asia are becoming increasingly geopolitically important, and strengthening relations with them is an urgent task,” NHK TV quoted the head of government as saying.
Japan has recently been paying great attention to developing relations with the countries of Central Asia: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
In June of this year, Fumio Kishida instructed the Japanese Foreign Ministry to work on launching the format of summit meetings with the heads of state of the Central Asian “five”. It is expected that regular summit meetings between Japan and Central Asian countries will begin in 2024.
