Poetry Beyond Time: Tehran Discusses the Legacy of the Legendary Poet Rabia Balkhi

A scholarly conference titled “Rabia Balkhi — a Prominent Figure in the Poetry of the Samanid Era” was held at the Embassy of Tajikistan in Tehran. The event brought together diplomats, scholars, and representatives of the Economic Cooperation Organization’s Cultural Institute (ECI).
The main focus of the meeting was the preservation and promotion of the literary legacy of Rabia Balkhi, the first known female poet to write in the Persian language. Participants emphasized that her poetic heritage transcends modern geographical borders and represents a shared cultural legacy of all the peoples of the region.
During the discussions, experts called for a large-scale effort to republish and translate the poet’s works into different languages, making her poetry accessible to a wider audience.
