Turkmenistan is preparing to participate in the COP-28 climate summit


Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, reported on the progress of preparations for the participation of the Turkmen government delegation in the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in Dubai from November 30 to December 12.
During the Conference, reports will be heard and current issues will be discussed on providing international financial support for the fight against climate change, as well as attracting large businesses to this activity; taking additional measures to strengthen the activities of the Fund, which tasks include compensation for damage associated with climate change, as well as such current topics as ensuring food and water security, etc. The participation of heads of state and government in the climate summit is scheduled for December 1-2. Along with the plenary sessions, high-level forums will be held at which it is planned to consider global problems caused by the negative consequences of climate change.
It was proposed to involve specialists from domestic departments in participation in COP-28, as well as the corresponding delegation in the work of the Youth Conference on Climate Change, which is scheduled for the period from November 26 to 28.
As a result of the COP-28 climate forum, which will bring together delegations from many countries and major international organizations, important documents will be adopted. In this regard, the head of the foreign policy department proposed studying them with a view to Turkmenistan joining them.
The head of the Turkmen state, especially noting the relevance of the issues and tasks raised at the global climate conference, instructed the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to continue work on thoroughly preparing the Turkmen delegation for participation in COP-28.
