The Turkmen delegation took part in the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asia in Brussels


From November 13 to 15, 2023, a landmark forum "Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asia" was held in the heart of Europe – Brussels. The event, jointly organized by the European Union and the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia, was an important event for regional cooperation.
A delegation from Turkmenistan, consisting of representatives of the Mejlis and the Women's Union, took an active part in the forum. Their presence not only demonstrated Turkmenistan's commitment to gender equality, but also highlighted the country's significant efforts in empowering women in the international arena.

As reported on the website of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium, the eventful program of the meeting included meetings with prominent European figures, including the EU Special Representative for Central Asia Teri Hakala and the EU Ambassador for Gender and Diversity Stella Ronner-Grubacic.
Key discussions were held with the Director of the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office on the participation of civil society in the implementation of the women, peace and security agenda S. Reines-Diyvandes, Deputy Director General of the European Commission for International Partnership M. Ferrand, Chief Adviser of the International Dimension on Education, Sports, Youth and Culture T. Shux, Vice-President of the European Commission for Democracy and Demography D. Suiki, deputies of the European Parliament under the chairmanship of Thomas Zdechowski, Vice-President of the European Parliament Heidi Hautala and others. The discussions covered a wide range of topics – from the role of women in ensuring peace and security to socio-economic achievements in the countries of the region.

The delegations of the parliaments of the Central Asian countries met with the relevant bodies of the European Union to discuss the global agenda "Women for Peace and Security" and the expansion of economic opportunities for women.
Member of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan J.Ovekova, who heads the delegation, spoke about the country's success in reforms and strengthening women's rights: "We are proud of our achievements and active participation in UN conventions related to women's rights. Our national programs are focused on empowering women in all spheres of life."

The delegation informed the colleagues about the constitutional and legislative framework of Turkmenistan guaranteeing gender equality. This presentation illustrated the country's legal commitment to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women.
Deputy of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan C.Rejepova stressed the importance of women's participation in education, innovation and youth policy: "Turkmenistan actively encourages women's participation in these key areas, striving for equality and sustainable development."

S.Setdarova from the Union of Women of Turkmenistan spoke about the functions of the organization and highlighted its contribution to the promotion of women's interests: "Our work affects the status of women in society, recognizing their integral role in the development of our people."
As part of the forum, a tour of the Europa Building, a symbol of the European Union, was organized for the guests, where they met with Simon Mordue, adviser to the President of the European Council Charles Michel.

The delegation of Turkmenistan also visited the museum – House of European History.
This international conference has become a platform for sharing experiences and strengthening international cooperation in the field of women's rights and their participation in ensuring peace and security. The participation of the Turkmen delegation highlighted Turkmenistan's achievements in the field of gender equality, demonstrating its active role in the international arena.
