The development of transport and logistics cooperation between Turkmenistan and China was discussed in Beijing


The first meeting of the subcommittee on transport and logistics cooperation of the China-Turkmen Cooperation Committee was held in Beijing on Thursday, November 16. The Turkmen delegation at the meeting was headed by Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers, Mammetkhan Chakyev. The delegation also included representatives of the agencies of railway, air, road, water transport and the Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan.

The Chinese side was led by Deputy Minister of Transport Li Yang. Large companies such as China Railway International Multimodal Transport co., Ltd and China Road and Bridge Corporation also took part in the meeting.
The meeting noted the positive pace of development of transport and logistics interaction between China and Turkmenistan and the importance of studying the possibility of developing new profitable routes for the delivery of goods through Central Asia from the PRC to Europe using the transport corridors of the two countries.

The parties expressed their commitment to the tasks set by the heads of state of the two countries to intensify the integration of China’s “One Belt – One Road” initiative and Turkmenistan’s “Revival of the Great Silk Road” strategy.
In particular, the Turkmen side is ready to offer Chinese companies favorable conditions for organizing logistics routes using the existing terminals and logistics centers in Turkmenistan, which allow effectively coordinating various types of transport.

Turkmenistan’s interest in introducing digital solutions in logistics, such as intelligent transport systems, and in further deepening cooperation with China in this area and through the training of highly qualified personnel for the industry, exchange of experience and best practices in the field of employee training was also noted.

They also discussed the prospects for opening additional routes for passenger and cargo air transportation, increasing transit volumes through the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and railway container flows, and strengthening the contractual basis for international road freight transportation.

At the end of the meeting, the Minutes of the meeting were signed, which enshrined the voiced intentions and stipulated further actions within the framework of the subcommittee on transport and logistics cooperation between Turkmenistan and China and its working groups.
