A new large airport will be built in Dubai, which will replace the existing Dubai International Airport, the largest in the UAE.

The news comes as Dubai airports authority Dubai Airports said that it expects to welcome 86 million passengers in 2023, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

According to Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths, Dubai International Airport DXB has a capacity of about 120 million. By the time this figure is reached, a new airport will be required. This is expected to happen during the 2030s.

No timeline or budget for the future airport has been announced, but it is known that the facility will have a futuristic design.

“We are not planning an airport with terminals. We are going to completely change the business model of airports,” Griffiths said.
