Turkmenistan has fulfilled the regional target in the fight against hepatitis B through immunization

Turkmenistan has received a certificate from the European Technical Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization, which confirms that our country has achieved regional targets in the fight against hepatitis B through immunization.
The Expert Advisory Group on Immunization was convened by the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe. The document notes that this achievement is of great importance for eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat throughout the European Region.
On the occasion of this event, a conference was held at the State Medical University named after Myrat Garryev on Monday, November 6, which was attended by members of the government, the UN permanent coordinator in Turkmenistan and the heads of the offices of UN agencies in Turkmenistan, faculty and students of the higher medical school, doctors and other industry representatives.
As the speakers noted, today a modern healthcare system infrastructure has been formed in Turkmenistan. Medical centers, specialized clinics, and sanatoriums equipped with the latest equipment and advanced technologies have been built in the capital and regions. The network of medical institutions continues to expand, providing the population with access to high-quality medical and health services at a modern level. At the same time, Turkmenistan occupies a leading position in the region in terms of immunization levels.
Chronic viral hepatitis is a global problem that requires urgent comprehensive measures. Given the depth of this problem, a new Global Health Sector Strategy on Viral Hepatitis for the period 2022–2030 was endorsed at the 2022 World Health Assembly. The main goal set by WHO is to achieve the elimination of viral hepatitis by 2030. Hepatitis B is preventable through safe, accessible and effective vaccines.
